Holiday Trading

What to Expect on Holidays

Depending on the holiday, you may experience one or more of the following:

  • Full market closures (no trading available)

  • Early market closes

  • Reduced liquidity and wider spreads

Are Trades Allowed on Holidays?

Yes. Trading is allowed on holidays as long as the market is open, including during shortened trading sessions.

All account rules and risk limits remain in effect at all times, including drawdown limits, consistency requirements, position sizing rules, and daily limits. Trading on holidays does not provide any exemptions or exceptions.

Impact on Open Positions

  • Open positions must still be closed by the trader if the market closes early.

  • Some instruments may stop trading earlier than others. Please refer to the CME Holiday Schedule for more information.

Trading Days

Trading days are counted per the CME trade dates. Please refer to the CME Holiday Schedule for more information.

Counting Holiday and Half-Day Trading Days

For most market holidays and CME half-day schedules, trading activity during the holiday or half-day session will be combined with the next full trading day and counted as a single trading day. Trades will be assigned to the next full trading day for trading-day calculations and payout eligibility purposes.

Example: If the market closes early on a Monday due to a holiday schedule, trading activity from that session and the following full trading session may be combined and counted as one trading day.

Daily Loss Limit (DLL) during Holidays and Half-Day Trading Days

A holiday or CME half-day session does not create a new trading day for Daily Loss Limit reset purposes. When trading resumes at 6:00 PM ET following a holiday or half-day session, it is considered a continuation of the same trading day.

As a result, the Daily Loss Limit will not reset after a holiday or half-day session. The Daily Loss Limit will reset at 6:00 PM ET following the next full trading day.

How to Stay Informed

To avoid disruptions, traders should:

  • Refer to the CME holiday schedule for official futures market hours and closures

  • Check the Status Updates page to confirm how trading days are counted for early market closes and full market closures for each specific holiday

  • Monitor platform announcements for any holiday-related updates
