A Tier Level is the scaling stage assigned to your Performance Account. Your Tier Level determines two key limits for the next trading session:
- Maximum position size
- Daily Loss Limit (DLL)
How Tier Levels Are Updated
Tier Levels are updated once per trading day before the trading session begins, and are based on your ending account balance at market close (4:59:59 PM ET) of the prior full trading session. Your closing balance is matched to the tier threshold you qualify for, and that Tier Level applies to the next trading session.
How You Move Between Tiers
Tier Up: If your ending account balance reaches a higher tier threshold, your account moves up a Tier Level for the next session. This increases both your maximum position size and your DLL.
Tier Down: If your ending account balance falls below a tier threshold, your account moves down to the appropriate lower Tier Level for the next session. This reduces both your maximum position size and your DLL.
Level 1 Floor: If your ending account balance drops below the Level 1 threshold, you remain at Level 1. Your limits will not decrease below Level 1.
Max Tier: Each account size has a maximum scaling level. Once reached, your contract limits and Daily Loss Limit stay fixed and will not increase further, regardless of additional profits.
Tier Levels never change during the trading session. Once your Tier Level is set at market close, it stays the same for the entire next trading session.
Position Sizing in a PA
Position sizing defines the maximum number of contracts you may hold open at one time. In a Performance Account (PA), the position size is not fixed. Instead, it follows a scaling level system that increases your allowable size as your account balance grows. This ensures exposure remains proportional to account performance.
How Position size is enforced
Position size is checked in real time when you place an order. If an order would cause your total exposure to exceed the maximum allowed size, it is automatically rejected. Rejected orders do not execute and do not result in any penalty or negative impact on your account.

FAQs
If your end-of-day balance drops below a tier threshold, your account moves down to the corresponding lower tier. Your Daily Loss Limit and position size are adjusted to match that tier for the next trading day.
If your account balance drops below the Level 1 threshold, your account remains at Level 1. The Daily Loss Limit and position size stay at the Level 1 limits and do not decrease further.
No, if you attempt to place an order that exceeds your maximum allowed position size, the order is automatically rejected. The trade will not be executed, and your account remains unaffected.
No, the position size limit applies to all open positions combined across all instruments. You may distribute contracts across different markets, but the total exposure must remain within your maximum contract limit.
Yes, ten (10) micro contracts equal one (1) standard contract. All exposure is calculated using this contract equivalency.
In a Performance Account (PA), position size follows scaling levels. You do not start with the maximum size immediately. Instead, your maximum position size is determined by your Level, which is assigned daily based on your ending account balance of the prior full trading session.
So the rule is simple:
- You can always trade the full size allowed for your current Level
- As your account grows and reaches higher level thresholds, your max position size increases
- If your balance drops, your max position size adjusts down to the lower level
- Once assigned, your size does not change during the trading session
Example on a $50K PA:
- Level 1 โ Full size = 2 contracts
- Level 2 โ Full size = 3 contracts
- Level 3 โ Full size = 4 contracts
You may always trade the full size of your current level, from the moment the session opens.
